Entrepreneurial by nature: It's in our DNA

Hello Imperial contact🙂👋

I don’t need to tell you about our amazing innovation ecosystem at Imperial; but, let’s be honest, when has that ever stopped me before!?

Over the past year, we’ve been working harder than ever to achieve entrepreneurial excellence, and we’re delighted that it’s been officially recognised by Imperial being shortlisted in the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year category in the 2024 Times Higher Education Awards.

The recognition is both timely and warranted. In this month alone, we’re welcoming thousands of potential entrepreneurs to Imperial with the start of the new academic year. We’ve already co-hosted London Demo Day and have taken some of our leading climate tech startups to Climate Week NYC, to meet potential partners and investors (check out a story on that in the newsletter below).

Closer to home, this month marks a decade since we formally launched the Imperial College Advanced Hackspace, set up initially by Professors Oscar Ces and Nick Jones and now based at White City.

During this time, we’ve helped countless students and researchers to take their first steps forward in bringing new ideas into the world in a community-led environment with access to best-in-class equipment and expert guidance. It continues to play a crucial role in our innovation ecosystem, and successful medical devices, cultivated meat production, food safety and carbon capture ventures all got their first break thanks to Hackspace.

I hope you’re as inspired about this work as we are, and I hope you see yourself as an important part of our innovation community.

Before I sign off, I have a small request for your support. I’d love it if you become more involved, whether that’s as a Mentor through the IVMS, as a supporter of our entrepreneurship programmes across Imperial through donations or philanthropic giving, or in whatever capacity you can.

We are proud to have such a huge network of talented people in our community here at Imperial, and we can’t wait to work with you, and others, in taking it to the next level 🚀💪
