Stay in the know on our healthcare innovations

Nothing motivates Imperial researchers more than tackling health challenges and improving lives, as you will see from several of our recent developments. Gene therapy spinout AlveoGene has formed to offer a solution, decades in development, to the major challenge of how to effectively deliver therapeutic genes into the body for the treatment of rare lung conditions. SPARTA Biodiscovery, a one-year-old spinout that is helping pharmaceutical companies create nanoparticle medicines that deliver active agents exactly where they’re needed in the body, has made excellent progress. And we’ve begun working with US company MediBeacon to develop a non-invasive method for assessing gut health using fluorescent dyes.

We’ve also redoubled our efforts to make it easy for prospective commercial partners to learn about opportunities to collaborate on Imperial technologies. We were delighted last week to be inundated with meeting requests at our buzzy IP4U technology fair, which showcased health and sustainability technologies from Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford and UCL to 500 industry attendees over two days of demos and discussion in South Kensington. London Demo Day, which showcased student startups from Imperial, Kings, LSE and UCL, was packed to capacity. And to meet this intense demand for information about our startups, our President Hugh Brady, in San Francisco with another delegation of Imperial healthcare startups, last week announced the launch of an online portal for professional investors. To request access, email Dr James Groves, our Head of Investment Services.

Next on our agenda is BioJapan 2023, Asia’s top biotech partnering event, which takes place in October in Yokohama. If you’re attending, look out for keynote speeches by Professor Brady and Professor Graham Cooke, Vice Dean (Research) in Medicine, and the large Imperial delegation who’ll be available for in-person conversations. Closer to home this November we are running Connect, Collaborate, Innovate in London which will help organisations submit successful Innovate UK bids with Imperial.

As ever, to start a one-to-one conversation you can also drop us a line using our contact form, and if you have colleagues who would also benefit from regular updates from us they can join our mailing list here.

Best wishes,

Dr Simon Hepworth
