SARS-CoV-2 was most probably initially transmitted to humans in a wet market in Wuhan where birds and wild animal species were sold as exotic foods in unsanitary conditions. COVID-19 is the result of many factors such as high population density, lack of regulation enforcement and our evolving food environment.
The food environment that surrounds us, such as the type and amount of food stores we have and what they sell and how they sell it, can impact our food choices and has the potential to influence our health and predispose us to obesity, non-communicable diseases and increased severity of infectious diseases like COVID-19.
