🌳 Plant waste is being turned into useful materials
A spinout is scaling a new process for turning waste wood and farming by-products into chemicals that can be used to make useful materials such as plastic. The company, Lixea, has received a major grant and plans a new demo scale plant to help the economy shift from fossils to biomaterials.
Researchers are working with waste management company Cory Group on an initiative to capture carbon dioxide from its waste-to-energy facilities before shipping it to depleted gas fields for storage. The project will help to pioneer the idea of shipping carbon captured by industries that lack access to pipelines.
