The science shaping society

Co-create breakthrough solutions with our Schools of Convergence Science

Dear Imperial contact,

We’re inviting industry partners to join us in ambitions such as ultra-fast worldwide disaster relief, empathetic artificial intelligence, global clean air and water, and the widespread embedding of medical diagnostics into everyday settings.

These are examples of the moonshots we’re targeting through our new Schools of Convergence Science, which will deeply integrate research and innovation from across academic and industrial fields in service of practical challenges that are too complex to tackle in isolation.

Launched as part of our Science for Humanity strategy, the four Schools will take Imperial’s interdisciplinary and impact-focused mindset to the next level. Bringing together innovators from Imperial and partner organisations in academia, business, and government, they will create and scale joined-up solutions to complex challenges in:

  • Health and Technology – helping shift the global conversation from treating illness to sustaining lifelong health across populations and geographies.
  • Sustainability – accelerating solutions for planetary health and human prosperity.
  • Human and Artificial Intelligence – augmenting the intelligence of humans and machines to help humanity thrive.
  • Space, Security and Telecoms – helping connect, protect, and know our worlds, and helping set the global agenda at the intersection of these disciplines.

As a partner to the Schools, you’ll play a vital role in co-creating our research programmes and helping rapidly translate new insights into live solutions. With unprecedented scale and systems thinking, we’ll jointly build high-velocity, high-impact pathways from the lab to the world and create a better society.

Let’s build a better future together

To explore partnership opportunities, visit the Schools’ web pages or connect with our Enterprise team, who are hosting in-person events and offering 1:1 conversations. Just drop us a line on enterprise@imperial.ac.uk.

Best wishes,

Learning from the world’s biggest offshore wind farm

The Dogger Bank Wind Farm is the world’s largest offshore wind farm under construction. Once complete, it will generate enough energy to power six million homes in the UK, and make a significant contribution to net zero. Imperial researchers Kaylen Camacho McCluskey and Dr Aidan Rhodes worked with SSE Renewables, Equinor, and Hitachi Energy to learn lessons from the project’s first phase, in a report they carried out independently through Imperial Consultants.
